Welcome to Access Abbotsford

About Access Abbotsford:

On December 4, 2006 City Council endorsed Abbotsford as being a Measuring Up City and the Measuring Up Committee was established with the vision “To make Abbotsford a community that is known for its ability to make active participation a reality for all of its residents and visitors”

In response to the community’s request (Public Forum May 2007), an inventory of materials and exploration of opportunities related to the accessibility and inclusion lead to three main priorities:

1) transportation and physical infrastructure (Out and About);
2) children’s accessibility and inclusion in recreation (I Can Play 2);
3) collaboration and partnerships with Abbotsford Businesses (Business/Employers)

The momentum of the Measuring Up committee and their subsequent achievements are a result of their commitment, innovation and progressive nature of their advocacy. In particular, their initiatives have been recognized provincially through presentations at:

  • Spirit of BC Summit 2008
  • BC Ministers Council on Employment for Persons with Disabilities
  • Conference Board of Canada

Measuring Up strives to foster networking and community connectedness with those that can make changes for more access and inclusion in Abbotsford.

New members are always welcome. Please contact info@accessabbotsford.ca for more information about future meetings or upcoming events.
